Editorial — Inaugural Issue

Some gestures do not merely begin: they found. This is the first regular issue of Revista Periphérica, the journal of CPAPEC — the Activist Research Collective in Psychoanalysis, Education and Culture — and of the Psychoanalytic School of Peripheral Listening (EPEP). If the Proceedings that preceded us gathered the voices of a congress, it is here that the journal takes on, once and for all, its form and its wager: to be a place of listening for what insists at the margins.

Periphérica is both a name and a position. We reject the idea that thought is born at the center and descends, translated, to the edges. We wager on the opposite: that it is from the periphery — from racialized bodies, from precarious territories, from the existences that the norm insists on not hearing — that the most decisive questions for psychoanalysis, education and culture of our time arise. To listen from there is not epistemic charity; it is to displace the center itself.

This is why the journal seeks to be plural in its languages (Portuguese, Spanish and English), open in its access, and rigorous in its peer review. We do not publish to accumulate prestige, but to sustain a common labor: to inscribe, in the public field of science, a listening that does not retreat before historical pain nor reduce it to diagnosis.

May this inaugural issue be read as what it truly is — a milestone. The deliberate beginning of a great and long labor, made with many, for many, from the margins that always knew, before us, what needed to be said.
